Heart's Wings- chapter 5

Chapter 5- Untimely Interruptions


"Hey, Tori, is Azumaki here yet?" Kamai asked.

"Come to think of it, I don't think so. She was supposed
to be here half an hour ago."

{She bailed.}

[Shut up, Skar.]



Azumaki was walking down the street on her way to Tori's. "No,
that wasn't real. All in my mind," she kept telling herself.
There is no way a human being can just grow wings like that.
But she still wanted to go anyway. The present she bought him
was a game for the Xbox Tsuzumaki brought him. But this was a new
game, not a used one like her brother's. He bought Tori Spyro, a
game they had for a while. She was bringing him Portal 1 and 2.

She was too busy thinking of how to ask him if it was real that she
didn't pay attention to the walkway. Someone slammed into her, running
really fast. Azumaki rubbed the spot where she was hit.

"Whoops, sorry, did I hit you? Gotta go!"

The girl she bumped into had black hair, save for one red streak and
her bangs. She was carrying something big, but it was wrapped up.
Azumaki looked in front of her just in time to sidestep  a young man
following her.

"She can be a little pushy. Hold up, Red!"

Azumaki need a double take on the both of them. They weren't wearing
normal clothes for a spring day. The boy was wearing what seemed to be
a military jacket. "I didn't think the militia was allowed in town," she
thought to herself.




"Okay, Tori, shake up the bottle like this, then open it up in someone's
direction, like…THIS!" Tsuzumaki sprayed Tori, Kamai, and Taylor with orange
soda.

"Screw you!" Kamai laughed, jumped up, and threw a ball of frosting at his
face.

While all this was going on, the doorbell rang. Tori sprinted to the door to
see who it is.  He opened it, and a very shocked Azumaki was in the doorframe.
He didn't know if it was from the fact that everyone in the room had orange soda
on them, or if it was about earlier today.

[She still can't remember that?! Can she?]

{I thought you told me to stay quiet.}

[Damn you, Skar. Now you're listening to my thoughts, too?]

"Tori, why is she here?" Azumaki asked and pointed at Taylor.

Tsuzumaki jumped down from his perch and looked Azumaki in the eye. "Taylor's a
guy. I made the mistake of asking him out."

Azumaki looked over at Taylor, and did indeed see he was male.

Tori, willing to break the tense atmosphere, called from the back of the room.
"Hey, we can blow out candles now! Anyone want to join?"

As he said that, everyone ran over to the table, and in unison, blew out the
candles from the cake.

"Hey, you didn't leave any for me!" Tori said sarcastically.



As the excitement began to die down, a storm wove. At one point, all the lights
went out. And worse, now they couldn't hear each other, and had to yell to get
their points across. Finally, they just decided to light candles and write on
whiteboards instead. When it came to choosing from the purple, red, green, blue,
and pink markers, Taylor got dumped with the pink one.

But the worst part of the party was something that caught all of them off-guard.
Especially Skar.

While Tori and Tsuzumaki were getting the Xbox to work, Kamai just started shivering.

"It's nothing, just the cold I've had," he said to try to comfort everyone.

"Just remember that if you need medicine that the cabinet is down the hall," Tori said.

Five minutes later, he was shaking more violently. Tori kept asking him if he was
okay, but he just said that he was fine, and went back to banging the dent out of
the Xbox.

{Tori, something isn't right.}

[For once, I agree with you. He's been acting strange since the lights went out.]

{Maybe he's afraid of the dark?}

[No, he's too smart for that.]

{Just ask him.}

"Hey, Kamai? Are you feeling alright?" Tori bent over the couch as Kamai put the final
chord in its place. He looked up, and nodded. As he nodded the second time, he collapsed.

{Wait, Tori! Don't go near him!} Skar's voice echoed in his subconscious, making him
yelp for a second.

<It's been a while, Skar. Or should I say, Guardian Apprentice Skarlem? Or are we getting
rid of that title now?> the demonic voice resounding in the room was coming from Kamai.

As he spoke, his hands became clawed paws and teeth grew into fangs. Red blood spattered
the wall behind him as jet-black bat wings and a spiked tail forced their way out. His pupils
shrunk to slits, and his hair darkened to the same blackness as his wings.

{Long time no see," Skar started to speak through Tori's mouth.

[What about everyone here? Won't they find out?]

"Aren't they your closest friends? It's okay for now."

Everyone came running to the living room when they heard the voices. Azumaki was the first
to see the blood on the wall, and whipped out her cell phone to call the police. A well-aimed
fireshot from Kamai prevented her from doing so. Tsuzumaki dove behind the couch, not willing to
look at this.

Tori knew that he had to change into Skar to make sure everyone got out alright. This time was
probably the fastest transformation yet, and thus, Tori felt no pain from it.


Azumaki stood on looking with horror in her eyes. 'It was real' her consciousness was screaming
at her. Tori wasn't insane.  


Skar stood up, and aimed a punch at his head.

<Did you lose all your fighting skills from being sealed in a human body for so long? Or are you
purposefully ignoring my attacks?> now Kamai was throwing random punches. Tsuzumaki was brushed
by one, and sent flying into the staircase. One just narrowly missed Azumaki. The only one that
would've hit was the one going toward Taylor.

Skar rushed in the opposite direction, the kicked off the wall behind Kamai, and, racing the
fireball, grabbed Taylor by the collar, and threw him aside into the couch.  At the very end,
he deflected a fireball off his left wrist.

Just as Kamai was throwing another fireball, the door banged open.

"I told you it was this house!" it was the girl that Azumaki saw earlier. Behind her, the young
man she saw with the girl was catching up to her.

"Fine, so you won. Here's your weapon." He handed her the case she saw earlier. Out of it, the girl
pulled out a broadsword. It was shining blue and had a red feather on it.

Skar turned to look at her. "Who are you?!"

She pulled the sword around and turned to face him.

"You can call me Redustrial."
